  4. Think of a teenager, how would you picture them?
There are so many different types of teenagers, but typically i would imagine someone who doesnt smile, hates their parents, thinks the whole world is against them and generally doestnt care about anything.

Why do you picture them like this?
from the media, television shows and films and from personal experience, my brother was a bitch.

What forms of media have you seen this picture of a teenager?
mostly in family sitcoms. the teenager is hard to handle and the parents' response is humorous. also in teenage shows, skins etc, no one seems to care about education or a future.
also on the news, the teenagers are always considered as hooligans, the 'youth of today' are always portrayed as being dangerous but i guess there is a good reason what with all the knife crime and stuff.

What affect do you thinks this has on teenagers?
they want to imitate them because they are considered 'cool'

In television media which genres convey this, for example documentary, tv drama and news?
not the news, because teenagers are never portrayed as being good, but the others can.

Do you think there is a difference between the representations in different genres?
documentary is more realistic, tv drama just is a bit stupid. who would actually have sex in a sick bay at college? it just doesnt happen.

Are teenagers portrayed as positive or negative in the media?
    mostly negative

    If positive, why?

    If negative, why?
there is a reason for it. if teenagers didnt behave in such a way, then there would be no reason to judge and be negative.

Why do media organizations represent teenagers like this, eg. Channel for the BBC?
because it's entertaining, it shows the country what people are like, it's a form of information, it can also be seen as a warning to not go to near maybe, especially to an older generation

What kind people are representing teenagers?
channel 4, with things like brat camp. watching that show makes me not want to have children. also in dramas like skins, and the American shows like 90210, the oc etc

Why are they representing teenagers like this?
it's interesting, entertaining, shocking nad makes good tv. really the only reason is to get good ratings because they are so shocking

What did you think were the key representations of teenagers in the following, Hoodies can be Goodies and We are the Lambeth Boy's?
lambeth boys-rebellious, lustful after the ladies, scary towards the older people.
    hcbg-vid wouldnt work, soz

  5. Think of a teenager, how would you picture them?
There are two many stereotypes to classify a teenager in one group type. For me they would be within a friendship group of similar interests, wearing fashionable clothes.

Why do you picture them like this?
As they are commonly seen around my college.

What forms of media have you seen this picture of a teenager?
    TV i.e skins, college prospectus.

What affect do you thinks this has on teenagers?
Peer pressure, to be in the fashion, follow the style of your friends, or the popular people.

In television media which genres convey this, for example documentary, tv drama and news?
    Teen programs.

Do you think there is a difference between the representations in different genres?
    Yes

Are teenagers portrayed as positive or negative in the media?
Mixed. Depending on their looks and how they are judged.

    If positive, why?
Some can be praised for sports or charity events

    If negative, why?
due to Attacks, threateningly large groups etc.

Why do media organizations represent teenagers like this, eg. Channel for the BBC?
Because organization is a good feeling for humans. lets us be in control. Teenagers are only one of many. its how teens are seen in the public eye.

What kind people are representing teenagers?
Teenagers mainly. But also the media when something bad happens.

Why are they representing teenagers like this?
to persuade the public of their opinion.

What did you think were the key representations of teenagers in the following, Hoodies can be Goodies and We are the Lambeth Boy's?
Lambeth boys doesn't present them in a negative way, but during that era it may have been frowned upon of beiing in a large group. hoodie can be goodies does almost persuade the viewers that hoodies are mainly negative, worn for bad reasons, but not everyone does.

Give some examples that you though were interesting?

  6. Think of a teenager, how would you picture them?
id just picture my self , although if i were to draw one, then i would probably use stereotypes to make it easy to recognise as a teenager. placing it in a hoody or baseball cap, with trainers and baggy jeans.

Why do you picture them like this?
its how teenagers are generally represented by the media, its the stereotype of a teenager.

What forms of media have you seen this picture of a teenager?
Television, books, magazines and newspapers. throughout media.

What affect do you thinks this has on teenagers?
it outs them in a negative light, and probably encourages them to play up to their label.

In television media which genres convey this, for example documentary, tv drama and news?
documentary, news and drama all convey this type of teenager.

Do you think there is a difference between the representations in different genres?
dramas are the most likely to show teenagers in a positive light, whereas the news prefers to cover negative stories, often being the most negative about teenagers.

Are teenagers portrayed as positive or negative in the media?
    negative

    If positive, why?

    If negative, why?
they always have been and they are likely to be for a while yet anyway. according to crime statistics more teenagers commit crime than any other age group and so they are likely to be stereotypes as all of them being badly behaved and deviant, therefore being portrayed in a negative light more often.

Why do media organizations represent teenagers like this, eg. Channel for the BBC?
creates drama, theres nothing like bad news for people to talk about. the media help to create mass hysteria about a topic and often teenagers can be the scape goat of a problem.

What kind people are representing teenagers?
deviant teenagers often represent the majority which is not really representative.

Why are they representing teenagers like this?
creates drama, sticks to stereotype and allows for a scapegoat

What did you think were the key representations of teenagers in the following, Hoodies can be Goodies and We are the Lambeth Boy's?
hoodies can be goodies shows teenagers as good people who are penalized because of there clothing.
the lambeth boys shows them as just lads messing around, but not really doing any harm.

Give some examples that you though were interesting?
in hoodies can be goodies the teenagers are acting against their stereotype taking there issues to the mayor of london trying to change views.

    Why do you think this?
    trying to change views.
